Action Art
Description: This activity focused on action art! To create the pictures in our collage, we used a few different types of action art. For the first one, we used marbles and paint in a box. We placed the paper in the center of the box and then put paint around the edges. You then drop the marbles in and roll them around the box until you get your desired look. The second was string pulling. For this method, we folded a long piece of white paper in half and then placed string with paint on it in the center. You then close up the other half the paper, press down, and pull out the string to create movement. The last technique was paint on shaving cream to create a marble effect. You start by spraying shaving cream into a bin and then drip paint on top, swirl the paint into the shaving cream until you get it to your desired look. You then lay your paper on top of the paint and shaving cream and press it down. When you lift it up, there will still be shaving cream so you have to scrape the leftover stuff off with a card. Then your marbled design will show! After creating our three types of action art, we put them into a collage!
Extension Activity: Using only the shaving cream technique. Students can create colorful turkeys around Thanksgiving time! Using a large and small painted brown paper plates for the body and construction paper for the eyes, beak, and feet. Students can then create the feathers using the marbling created by using paint and shaving cream. Each feather can be different color marble or they can all be the same, either way students will create colorful turkeys!
