Tissue Paper Sunflower

 

Description: This tissue paper sunflower is complete with real sunflower seeds in the center! We used templates to trace, then cut out and glue onto our papers to help create this project. Each pedal on the flower had a different sized stencil, we then used a gel medium to glue the tissue paper down onto the background paper. When all of the pedals were put into place, we then added details like the brown terracotta pot and real sunflower sees to the center. 

Extension Activity: There are so many ways to use tissue paper and gel medium, but I think a really cute and fun way would be to have students creat holiday wreaths to hang around the classroom. You could have a large variety of green tissue paper to choose from so students can customize the colors in their wreath. Students can then use the gel medium to sick their tissue paper down in a wreath shape, either gluing it flat to the paper or leaving parts to stick up for texture. Students can then use other colors of tissue paper to make ornaments or other decorations for their holiday wreaths!
