The Dot

Description: For this fun little project we used coffee filters and water color paints to create our dots! Prior to creating our own projects, we read a children's story called “The Dot”. This story is about how anything can be art and how you can use your imagination to make even the simplest things, like a dot, in to something awesome! You can create your dot any many different ways, but for mine I decided to start by using water color paints straight onto the coffee filter. I then went in and drew flowers over the watercolor patches with a sharpie maker. I love this project, it turned out super cute!

Extension Activity: I think this would be a fun activity to do with students at the beginning of the school year. The students could create their own dots to help decorate the classroom. I think giving students a chance to help decorate the room gives them a sense of belonging and responsibility in the classroom. The teacher could read “The Dot” to students to remind them that creativity can come from anywhere, and then let students create their own dots to display in the windows! Since the coffee filters are thin, the sunlight will shine through them making really fun and customized decorations for the room!
